What Are Text Dividers?
Text dividers are lines made from Unicode characters that split a bio, post or message into clear sections. They are popular in Discord server rules, Instagram bios, Carrd sites, YouTube descriptions and Notion pages, where you cannot add a normal horizontal line.
Most dividers are built from the Unicode Box Drawing block (U+2500–U+257F), originally designed for drawing tables in old computer terminals:
- ─ light horizontal (U+2500) and ━ heavy horizontal (U+2501)
- ═ double horizontal (U+2550)
- ┄ and ┈ dashed lines (U+2504, U+2508)
Aesthetic dividers add decorations in the middle, such as stars (⋆), moons (☾), hearts (♡) or flowers (✿).

How to Make Dividers Look Right on Phones
A divider that looks perfect on a computer can wrap onto two lines on a phone. Keep lines in bios to around 15–20 characters. Instagram bios are limited to 150 characters, so a long divider also eats into space for your text.
Line characters can look slightly different in different fonts. Discord, for example, shows ━ thicker than some phones do. If you need perfect alignment, such as a box around text, put the divider inside a code block on Discord by wrapping it in three backticks (```), which switches to a monospace font where every character has the same width.
You can collect several symbols in the composer tray at the bottom of this page, edit the text in the middle, and copy your finished divider in one click.
How to Type Line Symbols
Box drawing characters are not on standard keyboards. Copy them here, or in Microsoft Word type the code (for example 2501) and press Alt + X. On a Mac, open the Character Viewer (Control + Command + Space) and search for “box drawings”. On iPhone and Android, save your favourite divider as a text replacement shortcut so you can type it with a short word like “line”.
Dividers for Discord Channel Names
Many servers use symbols in channel and category names to make the sidebar easier to scan, for example ✦・announcements, ┃rules or ╭・welcome and ╰・general. Discord turns spaces in text channel names into hyphens, so use the dot ・ or a vertical bar ┃ as a separator instead of a space. Keep decorations short so channel names stay readable on phones.

Copy a short divider such as ───── ⋆ ───── and paste it between lines of your bio. Keep it to about 15–20 characters so it does not wrap on phones.
Paste a line like ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ between sections. For perfectly aligned boxes, wrap them in a code block using three backticks.
