Why Use Bullet Point Symbols?
Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube do not have a bullet list button, so the only way to make a neat list in a bio, caption or post is to paste bullet symbols at the start of each line. Short lists are easier to scan than a block of text, and a well-chosen bullet also adds a bit of style.
Popular bullets and their Unicode names:
- • Bullet (U+2022) – the standard round bullet
- ◦ White Bullet (U+25E6) – a hollow bullet for sub-points
- ‣ Triangular Bullet (U+2023) and ▸ (U+25B8)
- ✦ Black Four Pointed Star (U+2726) – the aesthetic favourite
- ➤ Black Rightwards Arrowhead (U+27A4) – great for calls to action
- ◈ and ▪ – diamond and small square bullets

Tips: use the same bullet on every line for a clean look, keep each line short so it does not wrap on phones, and leave important words at the start of the line where people look first. For nested lists, use • for main points and ◦ for sub-points. You can also build a list in the composer box at the bottom of this page and copy it all at once.
Bullets in Notion, Google Docs and Emails
Most writing tools have their own list feature: in Notion, Google Docs and Word, typing a hyphen or asterisk followed by a space starts an automatic bulleted list. Symbol bullets are still useful when you want a custom look, such as ✦ for highlights or ✓ for completed tasks, or when you are writing somewhere without formatting, like an email signature, a plain-text form or a chat app.
In emails, stick to widely supported bullets such as •, ▪ and ➤, because some email apps replace rare symbols with boxes. For accessibility, remember that screen readers announce many symbols by name (“black four pointed star”), so for long or important lists a real formatted list is easier for everyone to follow.
